Hispanic media keeps growing

Back in the mid-1980s, there was one just one Spanish-language network (Spanish International Network, which later became Univisión) and a few local newscasts en español.


Telemundo, the nation's No. 2 Spanish-language network, came on the scene in 1987, but it wasn't until the 1990s that Spanish-language TV really started to come into its own with a proliferation of talks shows, variety programs, game shows, sports and music programs and even a 24-hour all-news broadcast -- many of them made in Miami.


Now with digitalization, which allows broadcast stations to have new sub-channels, the field is starting to get downright crowded.
